Showcase: Benjamin wins ($28,452 in prizes); “Cave” Showcase, Espresso Maker, Range, and Travel Trailer

“Welcome, welcome to The Price is Right”, Bob said to today’s audience. Our host reminded Leslie, who does not consider herself a shopper, that she had to spend as much as $6000 to win Shopping Spree. She chose the Hutch over the Picnic Baskets and became today’s first winner on stage. Bob noticed the photograph of himself on the Hutch and jokingly said that it was a young Errol Flynn. Washington, D.C. resident and Maryland native Dorothy somehow missed the Wristwatch featured as today’s second Item Up for Bids, yet she managed to win her way on stage. She took a better look at the Nasal Spray before choosing that item in Grand Game. With $1000 and one item left, Dorothy had a good chance of winning $10,000. Unfortunately, she decided to choose the Gold Bond Lotion over the Tidy Cats litter. “An American legend”, Bruce said to Bob upon his arrival on stage. Immediately after being called to come on down, Benjamin was already being called “Big Ben” by our host. In Race Game, Benjamin had the Popcorn Cart and Server prices beside their respective prizes before pulling the lever the first time to reveal “2”. He realized after pulling the lever the second time (revealed “0”) that the two said prizes had their correct prices. Kimberly’s reaction to the Chevy Aveo (painted in her favorite color of orange, which is also her shirt’s color) was worthy of the extra camera time she got. Melissa (or “Melinda” until Bob discovered her actual name on the nametag) decided that she’s “Going” to bed, specifically the Campy Bed featured in Coming or Going. Kimberly scored 10 cents in both spins of the Big Wheel in Showcase Showdown #2. Today’s Showcase featured rocks, things rhyming with “pie” (including “pi”), and an Italian Holiday package. We end today's show with Benjamin and his crew in front of the Travel Trailer.

Freeze Frame: Jennifer wins; Cruise to Alaska ($4534)

Let ‘Em Roll: Robert wins $1500; Chrysler PT Cruiser

Plinko: Jose wins $500 with 4 Plinko chips

Showcase Showdown #1: Jose wins with 80 cents

One Wrong Price: Robin wins; Luggage, Couple of Chairs, and Barbecue Grill (Wrong Price $450)

Dice Game: Gay wins; Chevy Cobalt ($14,234)

Take Two: Lynette lost (Golf Equipment and Yard Tools Total $1991); Two Sets of Golf Equipment, Candle Sticks, Washer/Dryer, and Yard Tools

Showcase Showdown #2: Gay wins with 95 cents

Showcase: Gay wins ($43,731 in prizes); “Lost & Found” Showcase, Electric Guitar, Home Gym, and Ski Boat

Jennifer was very wise to bid $1001 on a $3000 Floor Clock. She had once frozen a price too soon, but she convinced Bob that it was her own mistake. Before stagehand “Big” Dave could put Freeze Fame back into motion, Bob requested that he reveal himself for a second. A few seconds later, Jennifer froze her chosen (winning) price. Viewers could see what appeared to be the arm of show producer Roger Dobkowitz as he congratulated Jennifer on stage. Bob mistakenly called Robert by the name “Robin” before the Big Doors revealed the Chrysler automobile. Our host corrected himself a couple of seconds later. Much of the audience said the Glad trash bags were higher in price than Udder Cream, but Robert disagreed and said “lower”, thus costing him an additional roll. In spite of only two rolls, Robert leaves today’s show $1500 richer. Jose, a sailor in the Navy had 3 Plinko fall into the $0 slot, but the last chip gained him $500 among the prizes he’s won today. After a commercial break, Bob revealed that he and the audience were discussing his role in the motion picture “Happy Gilmore” and the chance of another role in the future. Since he openly said that after retirement he would no longer be associated with CBS and Fremantle Media, a nude role in a horror picture is possible. A very funny and memorable moment for viewers of today’s show, I must say. Without hesitation, loyal viewer Robin chose the Barbecue Grill in One Wrong Price, but she still consulted with members of the audience for a few seconds. Bob was quick when he asked for three digits in the price of the Chevy automobile in Dice Game, since Gay’s first three dice rolls were without doubt. Lynette kept the Golf Equipment on both chances, but was unfortunately nowhere near the Yard Tools in more ways than one. Today’s Showcase featured two Motorcycles, an Electric Guitar, and a Ski Boat. Since Jose’s Showcase bid of $60,000 was without a doubt too high, Gay bid $1 on her Showcase. We end today’s show with Gay and her crew (all dressed in black shirts and jeans) in front of the Ski Boat.

Bonus Game: Samuel wins (“Bonus” in Third Window); Chevy Aveo

Lucky 7: Erika wins ($1 left); Jeep Wrangler ($19,675)

Balance Game: Torrin lost; 32-inch High Definition TV and Entertainment Center ($5294)

Temptation: Jennifer wins; Camera, Stemware, Bowl of Cash, Body Massagers, and Dodge Charger ($22,640)

Side By Side: Ashley wins (Left Side); Spa ($8290)

Showcase Showdown #2: Naomi wins with 60 cents

Showcase: Torrin wins ($32,141 in prizes); “Lemons” Showcase, $1000 in cash, Soda Fountain, and Travel Trailer

Samuel, the owner of a $811 Hammock after an $800 bid, appeared to have no understanding of his possible outcome in Bonus Game according to Bob. Erika said “5” three times in Lucky 7 to become today’s second winner of an automobile. Former Michigan State University student Torrin, who had just arrived in Contestant’s Row, nodded his head in agreement as his future exercise machine was revealed. After Torrin left Contestant’s Row, Bob noticed that his Michigan State shirt still fits since graduating in 1999. In Showcase Showdown #1, Erika’s long awaited first spin of the Big Wheel was a weak one. Naomi thought well enough about a pair of items priced $1.99 in Pick a Pair that she was on her way to Washington, D.C. Jennifer’s other prizes in Temptation included a Bowl of Cash, but she decided “to go for it” with her chosen price of the Dodge Charger. Before the last number in the automobile’s price was revealed, Jennifer gave Bob the chance of friendship and a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada depending on the outcome of Temptation. Ashley was very wise not to have a chosen Spa price more than $9000 in Side By Side. Today’s Showcase featured lemons, night clothing, and a Trip to Denmark. Torrin’s Showcase bid was too low, but Naomi’s overbid was smaller by comparison. We end today’s show with Torrin and his crew celebrating in front of his new Traveler Trailer.

The new season has begun taping!

Saturday, August 18

The 36th season season of The Price is Right began taping this past week! And lucky for us, a few members of the #1 TPiR message board, Golden-Road.net were on hand.

Some notes about the set and other miscellaneous things...

-Those who attended thought Drew did an adequate job. He is introduced as the "star" of the show, and only had a couple gaffes in his first few days of taping-- not to be unexpected considering he's brand new to the show.

-The doors have a new color scheme and logo. The words "The," "is" and "Right" are in white, while "Price remains in yellow. They (and the dollar sign to the left of the logo) are enclosed by two half hexagons, one orange, and one red. A picture of the doors are here(spoiler perhaps, for those of you who want to wait to see it on TV!).

-Word is the colors of both Contestants' Row and the curtains around the set have more of a pastel color scheme to them.

-Drew is using a wireless mic.

-The music has been remastered. It now has more of an orchestra component to it.

-Models are holdovers from last year.

-New colors for the other walls and turntables (a lot of blue and green)-- floor is still white with the asterisks, however.

-The podiums for the Showcase have changed to a green/gold color scheme. And while both the set pieces for the Showcase podiums and Contestants' Row have changed, the actual numerical displays have not.

-Barker's Wall colors were lightened up to match the "pastels" and the nametag of the Race Game curtain has been changed from 'Bob' to 'Drew.'

-The sound effects, losing horns, other buzzers, etc. are all the same.

If you want to read the full thread for other reaction to early tapings and audience participation, Drew's work as host, and the new set tweaks, feel free to browse the thread.

Right now, the premiere of the 36th season looks to be in the middle of October somewhere. Less than two months away!

Showcase Showdown #2: Katherine wins with 90 cents

Showcase: Katherine wins ($32,721 in prizes) “The Price is Right Scrolls” Showcase, Diamond Ring, Trip to Paris, France, and Chrysler PT Cruiser

Karisma, whose name is based on the word “charisma”, received enormous negative reaction when she chose the price higher than the Pontiac automobile’s actual retail price in Triple Play. Viewers of today’s show witnessed the debut of two greyhounds up for adoption, including with one an injured leg, but the two appeared to be in good spirits. $6995 appeared to be correct for the Hot Tub, but Rhonda decided not to risk pushing all the other blocks in Pushover. Mackenzie looked forward to becoming the proud owner of a surfboard of her very own, but that dream ended when she had to choose between some Stemware and the Guitar. Rhonda’s first spin of the Big Wheel was an attempt at getting $1.00, but members of the audience booing before the wheel stopped at 5 cents probably did not understand. Mark shouted “that’s too much!” perfectly in practice and at the right time. Wearing an Alabama Crimson Tide shirt, Delores stood up the moment our announcer Rich said her first name only. Brian made no mistakes in Now or Then. Today’s Showcase featured scrolls, a “priceless train depot”, and a Chrysler PT Cruiser. After Mackenzie made her bid, we all realized there was a problem displaying the prices in the Showcase podiums. The problem was solved during the following commercial break. We end today’s show with Katherine as the winner with a Showcase difference of about $400. Mackenzie leaves today’s show with memories of being a “charming contestant”, according to Bob.

Showcase Showdown #2: Billy wins with 80 cents

Showcase: Daniel wins ($21,933 in prizes); “Every Room of the House”, Bar Set, Arcade Game, Bathtub, and Day Bed

On the day marking his 83rd year of life (December 12th), Bob made his entrance down the aisle on today’s show. After two requests by our host, Phillip said the name of today’s first Pricing Game, Golden Road. Without much thought about the “5” at the end of the price of the Sofa, Phillip believed the second digit was also “5”. Sonya’s second hole in the Punchboard had $1000, but she decided to give that way. Somehow, Bob got lost on his way to the fourth hole before realizing that he was reaching into the first hole again. Maggie, a 1-year-old dog made her debut on today’s show, and it became a memorable debut when she was free to walk the stage. Our announcer Rich treated Maggie very well. Billy’s bid on a Riding Lawn Mower seemed too low to his fellow contestants. Unfortunately for them, their bids were too high. Kevin would have won Grocery Game with a price total between $20.00 and $21.00 had he not purchased more than one Gold Bond Lotion. Today’s Showcase featured prizes for every room of the house, “Sandy the Surfer”, and a Pontiac G6 being used as a surfboard. We end today’s show with Daniel surrounded by “Every Room of the House”.

Pushover: Ryan lost; Trip to Cozumel, Mexico ($2970)

It’s in the Bag: Brett wins $4000

Cover Up: Patricia wins; Pontiac Vibe ($19,726)

Showcase Showdown #1: Patricia wins with 90 cents

Clock Game: Miles wins (8 seconds left); Tennis Ball Machine ($849) and Fireplace ($969)

Dice Game: Kelsey lost; Chevy Colorado ($16,614)

Flip Flop: Jody wins by “flip flopping”; Electric Vehicle ($7995)

Showcase Showdown #2: Miles wins with 80 cents

Showcase: Miles wins ($23,215 in prizes); “Itch” Showcase, Garden Shovels, Billiard Table, and Chevy HHR

Switcheroo: Tamara wins Clock/Radio/Phone ($29); Pontiac G6 ($19,430)

It’s In the Bag: Ashley wins $4000

Squeeze Play: Jeffrey wins (removed “5”); 65-inch High Definition TV ($3998)

Showcase Showdown #1: Ashley wins with 85 cents

Poker Game: Leroy wins (Full House); Electric Guitar, Dining Room Table, Exerciser ($500), Wine Cooler ($999)

Money Game: Melissa wins $209 ; Chevy Aveo ($15,509)

Barker’s Bargain Bar: Dennis lost; Scooter (Bargain of $2000) and Floor Clock

Showcase Showdown #2: Dennis wins with 30 cents

Showcase: Dennis wins ($34,495 in prizes); "It's Not Easy to be a Model" Showcase, Electric Massagers, Trip to New Zealand, and Dodge Nitro

Tamara is the second contestant in the past few weeks to bear that name. When she first saw Switcheroo, she found it very familiar, proving her loyalty to the show. Tamara’s state of fright after her second chance of playing Switcheroo almost made Bob forget the point he was going to make about the changes made to the prices. Ashley decided to stay at $4000, as she was unsure about the last couple of bags. Unlike Bob, she was very interested in the last two items behind their respective prices. Each member of today’s studio audience signed Jeffrey’s shirt (he was wearing two shirts). He gave the shirt (except the name tag) to Bob after winning his way on stage. I hope Jeffrey signed the shirt as well. Hit Me may be gone, but Poker Game continues to be played in a time when many TV networks have their own card game show. Melissa probably misunderstood member of the audience telling her to choose “09” in Money Game, which may explain her choice of “90”. Both prizes in Barker’s Bargain Bar today had an actual price above $4000, but the Scooter had the bigger bargain. Today’s Showcase questioned Amelia Earhart’s disappearance and gave attention to the “hand flip” gesture when a prize is revealed. Dennis leaves today’s show with top honors.

One Wrong Price: Christopher wins; Treadmill, Snowboards (Wrong Price $3100), and Stemware

Plinko: Veronica wins $12,000 with 5 Plinko chips

One Away: Suzan lost; Ford Mustang ($20,694)

Showcase Showdown #1: Suzan wins with 75 cents

Side By Side: Katherine lost (Lefe Side); Trip to Jamaica ($7554)

Magic #: Jasmine lost (Magic Number $1606); Desktop Computer and Floor Clock

Line ‘Em Up: Yan wins; Chrysler PT Cruiser ($18,694), Washer & Dryer, Salad Shooter, and Recliner

Showcase Showdown #2: Yan wins with $1.00 ($1000)

Showcase: Suzan wins ($25,904 in prizes); Bedroom Group, 42-inch Plasma TV, and Trip to Zurich, Switzerland

Christopher was confident in his choice of the Snowboards having the wrong price. Audience reaction may have secured that confidence. Veronica left today’s show $12,000 richer. Before realizing that Suzan’s name is pronounced the same as “Suzanne”, Bob pronounced it the way most folks say “Susan”. Suzan proved her loyalty to the show by remembering the name of Bob’s late wife, Dorothy Jo. Before the second digit in the price of the Ford automobile was revealed, Suzan could “see red” already, meaning that the second number was actually “0” and not “2”, as she always believed. The actual price of a Jamaican holiday and return trip home nowadays surprised many witnesses to today’s show, especially Katherine. Jasmine, another loyal viewer took advice from a hockey team member in the audience. If Jasmine had won Magic # with $1606, she would have invited the fellow (who actually suggested $1600, but Jasmine had trouble getting the Magic Number there) who suggested that price out to dinner. Yan had a good chance of winning Line ‘Em Up on the first chance, but managed to rebound to having all three digits correct on his second chance. Today’s Showcase featured gold panning, a Ford F-150, and a Swiss holiday package. Yan always wanted to go to Switzerland, but he decided to pass that Showcase to Suzan. Like Jasmine, Yan took advice from a member of the audience, but the bid of $25,000 was a few thousand dollars too high. Suzan and her crew celebrated her amazing victory in spite of a difference of about $10,000 between her bid and the Showcase.

Shell Game: Melissa wins with 1 Chip (Ball Under Shell #3); Chevy Aveo

Money Game: Yvonne wins; Pontiac G6 ($19,725)

Grand Game: Charlee wins $10,000 (Target Price $5.00)

Showcase Showdown #1: Yvonne wins with 85 cents

Pocket Change: Angela wins with $1.15 ($1.00 for the Car); Pontiac Vibe ($18,670)

Clock Game: Alma wins (7 seconds left); Karaoke System ($739) and Sofa ($963) (+$1000)

Double Prices: John wins; Trip to Dublin, Ireland ($6861)

Showcase Showdown #2: Alma wins with 70 cents

Showcase: Alma wins ($25,894 in prizes); Dining Room Group, Cappuccino Machine, and Pair of Motorcycles

After lifting two shells without a chip, Bob and Melissa agreed to lift the shell that concealed the ball together. Charlee bid one dollar more than Captain John did on the Stemware up for bids. As a Navy veteran, Bob warned Charlee that the Navy captain could “have you on his lap” if she outbids him again by one dollar. Yvonne found both ends of the Pontiac G6’s price without a mistake in Money Game. Charlee outbid Captain John by two dollars to win her way on stage. Offering cars in every Pricing Game can get boring, said Bob. “Sometimes” it can be boring, according to Charlee. The student from Idaho did not let negative reaction from the audience change her mind about her choice of the Skin Cream being less than $5.00. With 40 cents to go in Pocket Change, Angela hoped for a big number in her last envelope. After looking inside the last envelope, Bob tricked Angela into thinking that it had something less than 35 cents. In the same sad tone of voice, Bob surprised her when he revealed the 50 cents. Angela enjoyed falling for that trick and returned to the audience a happy automobile owner. “Oh, no” was Alma’s reaction to the Clock Game, indicating her years of loyalty to the show. After an excellent game of Clock Game, Alma should have more positive feelings toward the game. Before John (not Captain John) could make today’s show a perfect one, Bob asked for the number of perfect shows (“70”, our host said) in Price history. Today’s Showcase featured Parkas, a Ski Boat, and a Pair of Motorcycles. We end today's show with our Canadian grandma Alma and her crew celebrating on stage. Good day!

5 Price Tags: Alveria wins (2 Chances); Dodge Caravan ($19,915)

Danger Price: Candice lost; Laptop Computer, Dinnerware, Sofa ($1545), and Roller Blades

It’s In the Bag: Derek lost $4000

Showcase Showdown #1: Derek wins with 90 cents

Freeze Frame: Earl wins; Barrel Sauna ($5245)

Dice Game: Tiffany wins; Chevy Cobalt ($14,315)

Most Expensive: Carlos lost; Dining Room Table ($4893), Luggage, and Electric Scooter

Showcase Showdown #2: Earl wins with $1.00 + 15 ($6000)

Showcase: Derek wins ($27,280 in prizes) “The Wonders of Parenthood” Showcase, Small Clocks, Cruise of the Caribbean, and Travel Trailer

Today’s first Item Up for Bids was a Piano worth $3278 and Alveria became its new owner. Down to her last chance in 5 Price Tags, Alveria chose the correct price of the Dodge Caravan. Candice has watched the show as long as she can remember, which goes back to the days of watching with her great-grandma. Despite being unfamiliar with Danger Price, Candice understood the game. Nova Scotia, Canada resident Derek decided to switch the Hot Oil and Tums featured in It’s In the Bag due to audience reaction. This decision ultimately ended his chance at winning $16,000 or even $4000 had Derek trusted his own feeling to stop. Earl’s stay outside of Television City on that day of taping began at 12:01 AM. This long wait may explain his many new friends in the audience. A member of the audience asked if a Dice Game player has ever rolled all four missing digits in the price of an automobile, so Tiffany forwarded that question to Bob. It has happened only once, according to our host. Carlos had a score of 95 cents in Showcase Showdown #2, but Earl managed to beat it. Today’s Showcase featured a glimpse at parenthood and “Homely Harriet”. We end today’s show with a Showcase winner, and that honor goes to Derek

Flip Flop: Edward wins by “flopping”; Trip to Lisbon, Portugal ($6490)

Any Number: Ryan wins Guitar ($849); Ford Mustang ($20,375)

Plinko: Donna wins $12,000 with 5 Plinko chips

Showcase Showdown #1: Donna wins with $1.00 ($1000)

Barker’s Bargain Bar: Charles lost; Treadmill (Bargain of $1000) and Fireplace (Bargain of $700)

That’s Too Much: Benjamin lost; Dodge Dakota ($21,850)

Bullseye: Nicole wins ($11.96); Pair of Motorcycles

Showcase Showdown #2: Charles wins with 85 cents

Showcase: Donna wins ($38,168 in prizes); “Yoga” Showcase, Trip to San Francisco, California, Grill, and Travel Trailer

Safe Crackers: Rita wins (Combination 450); Trip to Martinique in the Caribbean and Collection of Sun Screen

Any Number: Janet wins Jeep Wrangler ($18,765); Clock

Shopping Spree: Jordan wins ($6500 to spend); Golf Equipment, Kitchen Island, Digital Piano, and Gumball Machine

Showcase Showdown #1: Rita wins with 95 cents

Half Off: Moises wins $10,000 (3 Halves and Box #3)

Money Game: Curtis wins; Chevy Aveo ($15,459)

Range Game: Bessie lost; Catamaran ($9775)

Showcase Showdown #2: Bessie wins with 95 cents

Showcase: Bessie wins ($21,457 in prizes); Bedroom Group, Home Security System, and Trip to Auckland, New Zealand

Rita became the latest Safe Crackers player to turn the wheel to the right and to the left (twice) at Bob’s request. After the first commercial break, Bob learned that Jordan, including his group in the audience, considers our host to be their “homeboy”. Curtis hugged his fellow contestants upon his arrival in Contestant’s Row. He also called Jordan his “adopted son”. The large Clock featured in Any Number was of the non-traditional kind with its lack of numerals and “high brow” design. As our announcer Rich described the four prizes in Shopping Spree, Jordan was waving off screen. This friendly waving did not affect Jordan’s game and in return he received a kiss on the cheek from whom he was waving to on stage. Rita got 95 cents in her first spin of the Big Wheel. Captain Moises of the Air Force had only two boxes to choose from in Half Off, and he chose the oddest number of the two (Box #3 and Box #12). Bessie had a chance to make today’s show a perfect one, but stopped the red area in Range Game a little too soon. Bob helped Bessie score 95 cents in her first spin of the Big Wheel. Today’s Showcase featured a New Zealand holiday, a couple of “mice”, and a Ford Freestar Van. We end this week’s worth of shows with Bessie and her crew celebrating on stage. Good day!

Bob Barker and Drew Carey's interview that was scheduled to be on Larry King Live this evening has been postponed so CNN can continue covering the tragic bridge collapse in Minneapolis, Minnesota last evening. It will be rescheduled.

Mary only had the first “2” correct in her first play of Cover Up. She rebounds by having the next three digits correct, but the end came when she found out that the last number was also “2”. Robert, a warrant officer in the Army used his 44 seconds wisely in the Race Game. Kristin missed the price of the Grand Piano by only $1000 in Balance Game today. After shouting, “That’s too much!” in a way that Robert would say it, Brenda quietly says, “That’s it” to stop on her chosen price (though, too high) in That’s Too Much. Sheila tried to prove herself to “the perfect shopper” by pricing the items featured in Check Out today. Unfortunately, her price of $5.00 on some Udder Cream ended her chance of having a Charleston holiday. After two rounds of overbids on a couple of watches from above the stage, Nelly wins her way on stage since becoming one of today’s first four contestants. She could have bid $1 on the watches sooner. Today’s Showcases featured the “Port O’ Price”, a Jet Ski, and some advice from a clerk. We end today’s show with Robert and his crew, or cohorts celebrating in front of the new Travel Trailer.
